Sparks The Rescue is Alex Roy (vocals), Mike Naran (guitar), Toby McAllister (guitar), Ben Briggs (bass), and Nathan Spencer (drums). They started 2010 out with bang on The Revolutions and Resolutions tour with The Audition, The Right Coast, and The Dangerous Summer. “The tour has been great, it’s like a big giant family. We all hangout together and it’s been exciting to be touring in the south mid-winter,” said Alex.
They have been tearing up the pop-rock music scene for nearly a decade now. It began in high school when they spawned from three local bands: Pozer, Two Girls Later, and Short of April straight from the New England music scene. After playing local shows and events the three bands joined forces in 2005 forming Sparks The Rescue (deriving their name from Nicolas Sparks’ novel The Rescue). |Sparks The Rescue’s blend of infectious melodies, pop-infused technical guitar riffs, high-energy, and solid musicianship brought them the release their debut full-length album Eyes To The Sun on Fearless Records in 2009. Produced by Jonathan Wyman of Halo Studios, the album has gained rave reviews. With tracks receiving play on MTV’s The Hills and Real World: Cancun, 2009 was quite the year for Sparks The Rescue. They toured Europe with The All-American Rejects, jumped on the road with Hit The Lights, and won MTV/Garnier’s recent battle of the bands for an appearance on MTVU’s Woodie Awards. They left 2009 winning the hearts of vampire lovers with the release of their new video for the single “We Love Like Vampires.”
Nearly 2 years after forming, Sparks The Rescue gained a rapidly growing fan base with the 2007 release of the six-song digital EP, The Secrets We Can’t Keep on Blind Music. It wasn’t long before their music reached the ear of Portland’s New Rock Alternative WCYY’s, Mark Kurdo. The Secrets We Can’t Keep started getting heavy rotation on “Spin Out,” a weekly program that features local artists. Requests were pouring in and they started to get regular airplay on the station. They went on to sell over 10,000 units of their EP on iTunes as their fan base grew exponentially. Their success has stemmed from their popularity at WCYY, and they haven’t forgotten that. “It was surreal to hear our songs on the radio…I’d blast the volume!,” said Alex. They’ve played over 300 shows to date and have shared stages with great bands including All Time Low, Hawthorne Heights, As Tall As Lions, Mayday Parade, Chiodos, Forever the Sickest Kids, and A Static Lullaby.
