New Years Day is an American rock band formed in 2005 in Anaheim California and is currently inactive After building a reputation through DIY promotion on MySpace (along with some help from Tom a fan of the band) the band released their debut EP in 2006, their debut album "My Dear" was followed in 2007 The band's music is categorized as pop punk and alternative rock

Band History

New Year's Day was established in 2005 after bassist Adam Lohrbach left the band Home Grown Home Grown's final EP 2004's "After all Down" had departed from the band's past style of humorous pop punk and incorporated many emotional elements Lohrbach transferred to New Years Day Meeting with singer Ashley Costello (see previous) and guitarist Keith Drover (ex-Ugly), the three began to repeter songs that Costello and Lorhbach had written these songs were heavily influenced by members' common emotional experiences that Lohrbach Drover, and Costello had all recently been through difficult relationship break NYD first bass player was Eric Seilo a mutual friend of the three even though he had to leave soon after the band was formed as a result of school affairs group soon added guitarist / bassist Mike Schoolden (previously Wakefield) and drummer Russell Dixon (formerly Glen Haven) and took the name New Years Day after deciding that the name symbolized the healthy emotional start of the members and the band name was also on holiday myself

The band began building a reputation by DIY-produced campaigns ochutstationering tracks p?? MySpace and appeared on MySpace Records Volume 1 compilation CD and on the soundtrack to the video game Saint's Row After considering an offer from Pete Wentz-run Decaydance Records the band signed to TVT Records and released their debut self-named EP in 2006 Originally called the Razor House it was primarily a digital release made available via download services like iTunes on the CD copies were also available on the band's peformances They have also performed at South by Southwest music festival that same year,

From the 2006-2007 New Year's Day self-financed and self-produced debut album My Dear recorded over a eight-month period at the home of producer Eugene Perrers The album was released on 8 May 2007, includes collaborations with members of Reel Big Fish andMotion City Soundtrack The band's debut music video for lead single "I Was Right" won an MTV "Freshman Face" vote and was added to the channel's playlist

The band is currently working primarily on the lack of promotion and tour support from their label TVT as is now in bankruptcy, even if the tape is still tied to those contracts
