Making it into the Top 24 has been a tremendous accomplishment in itself for Amberly. “It was such a surreal experience, super-exciting but also very relieving,” she says. “It’s a great experience to meet other musicians and gain exposure.” Amberly has a strong fan base of family and close friends across Canada that are cheering her on, and their support means the world to her. Specifically, Amberly says her sister, Lisa, has been an inspiration to her and has led her to pursue her dreams. A huge fan of basketball and volleyball, Amberly says the lessons she learned as an athlete have helped prepare her for the competition. “All the qualities I have learned from competitive sports have helped me get this far; determination, hard work and accepting the outcome - whatever it may be.” In her own career, Amberly says she would like to follow in the shoes of an artist like Bono of U2 - someone who has used his musical talent to better other people’s lives - as making a difference to others is important to her. Amberly is interested in the charity Love 146 which makes efforts to combat child exploitation and trafficking globally. “I would really like the opportunity to help their cause on a larger scale if I have the chance to. What they’re doing is so important.” Amberly hopes to bring a fresh and unique country feel to Canadian Idol this summer. “I have learned how fun singing on stage is, and it has really confirmed for me that this is my passion. I can’t imagine doing anything else.” |
